The Southernhay is in the village of Westbourne, with the local shopping centre being just a few minutes walk from our guesthouse.  Here you can find a wide range of  shops, including a few designer clothes shops. 

There are a variety of restaurants in the village, including Italian, Indian, Greek as well as an extremely popular fish and chip restaurant and take-away.  There are also several cafe's, three pubs and a wine bar, which serve a varied selection of reasonably priced meals.

Just across the road from our guesthouse, a path leads through the woods to the promenade and the beach.

Once on the beach, the promenade stretches for miles, with Bournemouth pier about a 20 minute walk away to the left.  For those with walking difficulties or with young children, a land train runs along the promenade daily in the summer and at weekends throuhout the year.

The centre of Bournemouth has a large shopping centre, situated next to the pretty gardens, and is well known for its night life.  In the gardens there are tennis courts, the 'Bournemouth Eye' hot air balloon and crazy golf.  The BIC, Pavillion and Pier Theatres have concerts and shows running during the year and there are also two multi-screen cinema's.
